Occupational therapists (OTs) are regulated health professionals who use evidence-based interventions to help our clients improve their physical, cognitive and affective skills. More specifically, OTs utilize an individual’s strengths to help them become more independent in areas of self-care, home management, play, work, study, leisure and social participation.

What do Apollo Occupational Therapists do?

Pediatrics (0-18)

Our occupational therapists can help children develop the motor, sensory, and social skills necessary to maximize their potential and participation in the activities that are most important to them. 

Children will benefit from occupational therapy if they have challenges with:

  • Self regulation

  • Fine or gross motor skills

  • Self-care skills

  • Mental health

  • Visual perceptual skills

  • Low muscle tone/strength

  • Coordination/balance

  • Handwriting

  • Attention and organization

  • Sensory modulation

  • Picky eating

Adults

Our OTs provide assessment and intervention for adults 19+ in the following areas:

  • Cognitive rehabilitation: Goal directed assessment and treatment aimed at improving cognitive processes (attention,memory,executive function) and participation in activities of daily living.

  • Neurological rehabilitation: assessment and treatment for individuals with movement and functional challenges as a result of injury or illness caused by the nervous system (Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson's)

  • Transition planning: Develop strategies to support the transition from one setting to another, or from one life phase to another.

  • Case Management: Make recommendations on the appropriate level of housing support given an individual’s current strengths and challenges related to daily living skills.

  • Vocational Rehab: Assessment of skills and strengths in order to help individuals obtain and/or maintain meaningful employment or educational opportunities.

  • Ergonomic assessments: Adapt/modify working environments to minimize the risk of injury and pain.

  • Social skills training: Support individuals in expanding their social network.

  • Coping skills intervention: Teach strategies to cope with the effects of stress and illness (energy conservation and pain management techniques).

  • Plan and implement short and long term goals that enable participation in activities of daily living.

Where do the Apollo OTs Work?

Our OTs work in clinic and community settings including homes, schools, rec centers, and places of employment.

Our OT’s work with a variety of conditions such as:

  • Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

  • Sensory Processing Disorder 

  • Attention Deficit

  • Developmental delays or learning disabilities

  • Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD)

  • Visual/perceptual challenges
